Are blue eyes really blue?

According to surveys there are many with blue eyes, and if you ask somebody what colour their eyes would be they would say blue. From my personal experience, however, there are few people with eyes that are pure blue or at least constantly blue.

This is because many who claim to have blue eyes actually have bluish green, blue grey, grey, and even greyish green eyes. Furthermore, the great majority of people including Scandinavians (who are incorrectly known to have only blond hair and blue eyes) only have blue eyes when they are relaxed. When frightened, nervous, or angry, their eyes darken or turn green or grey. In fact grey eyes are considered the darker version of blue eyes.

In conclusion, these with pure blue eyes like Liam Hemsworth, dolph Lundgren, and Julianne Hough are rare to find and that is what makes them unique.

Very rarely do you find anyone with pure blue eyes as in the picture below:

Instead you will find these who say they have blue eyes to be mostly this colour:

Blue grey

Blue green eye

Grey eye which is considered the darker version of blue eyes.
